CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS

Department of the Army – Presidio Classrooms

Design-Build Construction

In July 2004, EAR was contracted to build nine classrooms for the Defense Language Institute of the Department of the Army in Presidio, CA. An existing building was completely renovated following the design put forth by EAR and included new electrical wiring, plumbing, and sustainable design features. Although weather caused occasional work delays, EAR made adjustments to ensure that the project was completed within budget and on time.

Activities

  • Design-build planning
  • Demolition
  • New construction
  • Electrical wiring
  • Plumbing

Edwards Air Force Base

Hangar Door Repairs

EAR was contracted to perform design-build repairs and upgrades to the hangar doors of two buildings at the Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV) Weaponization Lab at Edwards Air Force Base, California in the fall of 2005. The scope of work involved removing and replacing the existing pneumatic (air) motor driven system with new electric motors and installing a new power supply system per design specifications that the Southwest Division Naval Facilities (NAVFAC) provided. Since the site is an active military site, EAR operated the project under constantly changing site and elevated security conditions. Aircraft are often deployed from the hangars, which store cargo planes and remote controlled aircraft, and EAR adapted to site conditions to complete the job as efficiently as possible. EAR also managed a number of sub-contractors during this project.

Activities

  • Design-build planning
  • Electrical work
  • Coordination of sub-contractors
  • Adaptation to difficult working conditions

Twentynine Palms Marine Corp Air Ground Combat Center

Security and Fencing Upgrade

EAR was contracted to replace the fencing and upgrade the security system at the potable water wells at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) in Twentynine Palms, California. We were aware of and sensitive to a number of concerns at this particular site such as a need for increased security and consideration of endangered wildlife. EAR recommended an upgrade of a fiber optic cable system to the client during the project, which was subsequently installed and contributed to system performance.

Activities

  • Design-build planning
  • Electrical and fiber optic wiring
  • Fencing and security installation
  • Landscaping
  • Biological survey

China Lake Mission Planning Building

Design-build construction and plumbing

EAR provided the design and engineering for an approximately 3,000 square foot facility, including plumbing and electrical infrastructure associated with the building. The design phase included a geotechnical assessment of the existing soil conditions to facilitate optimum design of the building and related foundation. EAR also conducted research on the existing security systems at the adjacent building and included a design for a low voltage Intrusion Detection System (IDS).

Activities

  • Design-build planning
  • Electrical wiring
  • Security installation
  • Plumbing

Edwards Air Force Base
– Fire Suppression System

Design-build construction

EAR was contracted to revamp the existing fire sprinkler system at an active aircraft hangar located on Edwards Air Force Base to a wet pipe fire sprinkler system. The activities included installation of four high expansion foam systems and overhead foam generators four foam reservoir holding tanks whose purpose is to provide fire protection and repression for military combat aircraft.

Activities

  • Design-build planning
  • Fire suppression system
  • Upgrade of existing system
